What decides it

Yes needs Flávio Bolsonaro to win the Oct 25 runoff by 8 to 12 percentage points of valid votes (blank and null ballots excluded) in the official count; if reporting is ambiguous, the TSE's official results decide. A margin exactly on a bracket edge goes to the higher bracket.

Latest

  • Quaest (2,154 voters, Oct 10-13, margin of error 2 points, TSE BR-08729/2026, for Globo and O Globo): Flávio 46%, Lula 44%; 51% to 49% of valid votes.

  • O Tempo reported a new Datafolha runoff poll due Thursday Oct 15, with fieldwork Oct 13-15.

  • Datafolha (2,520 interviews, Oct 6-7): Flávio 49%, Lula 45% of all voters; 52% to 48% of valid votes.

Case for Yes

Flávio won the first round and leads both published runoff polls in valid votes (Datafolha 52-48, Oct 8; Quaest 51-49, Oct 14), and about 7.8% of first-round valid votes went to other candidates.

Case for No

Flávio's first-round lead was 1.87 points and the latest runoff polls show 2-4 point valid-vote gaps, well below the 8-point floor; Quaest's 2-point gap is within its margin of error. A Lula win also resolves No.

What to watch next Datafolha's runoff poll due Oct 15 and later Quaest and Datafolha rounds, then the TSE count on the night of Oct 25.

A Lula win, or a Flávio win by under 8 or over 12 points, is No. In valid-vote terms 8-12 points means roughly 54-46 to 56-44.

Earlier

  • TSE's first-round count (100% of sections): Flávio Bolsonaro 56,104,503 votes (47.03% of valid votes), Lula 53,879,538 (45.16%), a gap of 1.87 points.

Rules

Resolution criteria
The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to take place in Brazil on October 25, 2026. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two candidates in the second round of the next Brazil Presidential Election. For the purpose of this market, the “margin of victory” is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first- and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket. If a candidate other than Flávio Bolsonaro or Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva receives the most valid votes in the second round, or if the top two candidates receive exactly the same number of valid votes, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the official vote count once the vote count has been made official. If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market will remain open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official. If the result of this election isn't known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Brazilian government, specifically the Superior Electoral Court (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, TSE) (e.g., https://dadosabertos.tse.jus.br/).Kellian is not affiliated with Polymarket.
